An MCP Firewall Isn’t Enough: Why AI Agents Still Need Detection and Response

Model Context Protocol (MCP) firewalls help enterprises control how artificial intelligence (AI) agents access tools and data, but preventing agent compromise is insufficient without detection and response capabilities. When AI agents are manipulated through MCP to abuse legitimate tools, attackers can pivot to credential theft, lateral movement, and data exfiltration within enterprise infrastructure. Security teams must correlate AI agent activity with broader enterprise signals to distinguish between isolated suspicious behavior and coordinated attacks.

Why it matters: Security operations centers need visibility beyond MCP interactions to detect when AI agent compromise becomes part of a larger attack chain; prevention-only controls leave organizations blind to post-compromise activity across identities, cloud resources, and endpoints.
