HSCC publishes AI clinical resilience playbook to help healthcare organizations manage patient safety, cybersecurity risks
The Health Sector Coordinating Council published the Playbook for artificial intelligence (AI) Clinical Resilience, a framework for healthcare organizations to manage safety, security, and operational risks from artificial intelligence (AI) embedded in clinical workflows. The playbook guides cross-functional teams through detection, analysis, and response to AI-related threats across inpatient, acute care, and outpatient settings, addressing decision support, automation, and generative AI use cases. It provides guidance on developing role-based incident response playbooks tailored to clinical criticality, AI function type, regulatory status, and integration depth with electronic health records and other systems.
Why it matters: Healthcare delivery organizations need structured incident response procedures for AI failures in clinical settings to protect patient safety, comply with FDA and HIPAA requirements, and minimize operational disruption when AI-driven risks emerge in triage, monitoring, diagnostics, or documentation systems.
