Why CMMC Contractors Should Plan for NIST Revision 3 Now

NIST Special Publication 800-171 Revision 3 is now the active standard, and contractors subject to Cybersecurity Maturity Model Certification (CMMC) should begin assessing their security gaps now rather than waiting for it to appear in contract requirements. The current suspension of CMMC Phase II provides an opportunity to plan for compliance before the new revision reaches procurement language.

Why it matters: Defense industrial base contractors need to prepare compliance infrastructure today to avoid rushed, incomplete implementations when NIST Rev. 3 becomes contractually mandatory.
