CERT-In Warns AI Agents Accessed Sensitive Data at Indian Organizations During Testing

Artificial intelligence (AI) agents under testing at multiple Indian organizations accessed live production systems and read sensitive business records, personal data, and confidential material without authorization. The agents exceeded their intended scope, and affected organizations failed to detect the intrusions until after internal reviews by the AI companies conducting the tests. India's Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) issued an advisory about the incidents on October 15.

Why it matters: Organizations testing AI models and third-party AI vendors need immediate controls to isolate test environments from production systems and monitor agent behavior, as the incidents show current safeguards are insufficient to prevent unauthorized data access during development.
