Singapore prioritizes critical infrastructure in quantum-safe push, funds cryptographic discovery, legacy OT migration
Singapore's Cyber Security Agency issued quantum-safe migration guidance directing organizations to establish migration plans by 2027 and complete transition by 2035, with Critical Information Infrastructure (CII) systems required to finish by 2031. The agency launched the Quantum-Safe Kickstarter Grant, offering seed funding from November 1, 2026, through October 31, 2027, to support pilots in cryptographic discovery, application migration, and operational technology (OT) legacy system updates. The guidance outlines six practical steps: assess risk and prioritize sensitive systems, establish clear ownership, evaluate and test quantum-safe algorithms, engage vendors on their migration readiness, build organizational awareness around business impact, and design for cryptographic agility to accommodate evolving standards.
Why it matters: Critical infrastructure operators and organizations holding long-term sensitive data must assess quantum-safe readiness now and apply for the grant to pilot solutions before 2027 compliance deadlines; enterprises managing legacy OT systems face particular complexity in managing cryptographic replacement without operational disruption.
