Microsoft Patch Tuesday, October 2026 Security Update Review
Microsoft released its October 2026 Patch Tuesday update addressing 1,414 vulnerabilities, including 78 critical and 1,329 important-severity issues across Windows, Office, Exchange, and other products. The update marks the largest security release to date and includes fixes for multiple remote code execution, privilege escalation, and denial-of-service flaws. Adobe also released 11 advisories covering 176 vulnerabilities with 23 rated critical across its products.
Why it matters: Organizations running Microsoft Windows, Office, Exchange, SharePoint, and other affected products must prioritize patching to prevent exploitation of critical remote code execution vulnerabilities, particularly CVE-2026-96951 which CISA reports is actively exploited in the wild and must be patched before October 16, 2026. Adobe users should assess and patch critical vulnerabilities in Experience Manager, ColdFusion, Commerce, and other affected products to prevent privilege escalation and arbitrary code execution.
