Ransomware pressure now reaches employees’ homes and families

A survey of 1,200 IT and security professionals at organizations that experienced ransomware attacks found that 37% reported threats targeting employees' family members or friends. Ransomware groups are expanding pressure tactics beyond corporate networks to include personal and physical harm against individuals connected to target organizations.

Why it matters: Security leaders and incident responders need to prepare employees for personal safety risks and develop policies addressing extortion threats against family members, as attackers now routinely weaponize personal relationships to increase payment pressure.
