PHP2Shell: What Actually Protects You Before the 14:00 UTC PHP RCE Patch, and What Doesn't

Two critical PHP vulnerabilities called PHP2Shell with a CVSS score of 9.2 are scheduled to be patched on October 21, 2026 at 14:00 UTC. A suggested mitigation setting circulating beforehand is insufficient as a standalone defense, according to the security firm that initially recommended it. No complete workaround exists prior to the patch release.

Why it matters: Organizations running PHP applications need to prioritize patching immediately upon release or implement layered mitigations in the interim, as these flaws allow remote code execution and cannot be fully blocked without the patch.
