Cloud Security Alliance Survey Finds Data Loss Prevention Often Detects Data Loss Only After It Happens

A Cloud Security Alliance survey found that data loss prevention (DLP) tools rarely stop data exfiltration before it occurs. Among organizations that experienced data loss, only 16 percent reported that DLP blocked their most significant incidents before data left the organization.

Why it matters: Security teams relying on DLP as a primary defense should audit their configurations and detection rules, as reactive alerting after exfiltration begins leaves data already compromised.
