Railway Says Intruder May Have Accessed Customer Secrets, Urges Credential Rotation

Railway, a platform-as-a-service (PaaS) provider, disclosed unauthorized access to systems storing customer environment variables on October 22. An attacker may have accessed encrypted environment variables and decrypted some of them, affecting a subset of users. The company recommends rotating credentials as a precaution.

Why it matters: Customers using Railway for application deployment should immediately rotate secrets and application programming interface (API) keys stored as environment variables, as attackers may have obtained decrypted credentials enabling account compromise or further attacks.
