r/opensource bans AI projects, and solo devs go down with them

The r/opensource subreddit has implemented new moderation policies that exclude projects using, created by, or intended for artificial intelligence (AI), along with stricter requirements for project maturity, licensing, and contributor count. The rules require projects to be at least one year old, actively maintained, carry an Open Source Initiative (OSI) license, and have at least three contributors, affecting solo developers and newer initiatives.

Why it matters: Open source maintainers and contributors may lose visibility and community support on a major platform if their projects involve AI or fail to meet the new contribution thresholds, potentially fragmenting the open source ecosystem.
