Securing AI Coding Harnesses

Artificial intelligence (AI) coding harnesses allow developers to execute shell commands, install software, and push code with the permissions of the launching user. Security teams must implement enforced sandboxes, managed permissions, short-lived credentials, and auditable logging before these tools proliferate across the enterprise.

Why it matters: Security and development teams need to establish controls now, as AI coding agents with shell access pose significant risk of unauthorized code changes, data exfiltration, and lateral movement if compromised or misconfigured.
