Ohio auditor: Cyber attack on state server carried out by possible ‘foreign state actors’

Ohio Auditor Keith Faber disclosed that the state auditor's office web server was targeted by what he characterized as overseas cybercriminals and potentially foreign state actors. The server was temporarily taken offline in response. Faber stated there is no evidence that Ohioans' personal financial information was compromised.

Why it matters: State government staff and residents need to monitor for credential compromise or phishing attempts targeting Ohio systems, and understand the incident response posture of their state technology infrastructure.
