Data breach at Sony-owned internet provider compromises 2.6 million customer records

Attackers gained unauthorized access to the So-net member database, a Japanese internet service provider owned by Sony Network Communications, exposing personal information for more than 2.58 million current and former customers. Email passwords for 54,401 users were also compromised in the breach.

Why it matters: Current and former So-net customers face identity theft and credential reuse risks; practitioners should check for breached credentials in their environments and advise affected users to reset passwords across other services.
