DHS Orders Civilian Agencies to Purge Acronis Software

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has directed civilian agencies to cease purchasing and uninstall Acronis backup and security products due to the Swiss vendor's elevated access within federal systems. The order extends an existing ban that previously applied to intelligence and defense agencies. DHS cited the extent of root-level access granted to Acronis tools as the primary concern for the expanded restriction.

Why it matters: Federal civilian agencies must immediately audit and remove Acronis products from their networks; procurement teams need to halt any ongoing contracts and identify alternative backup and security solutions.
