ODVA’s CIP Security achieves TÜV Rheinland certification against IEC 62443-4-2 at Security Level 3

The Open DeviceNet Vendor Association (ODVA) announced that its CIP Security technology has received formal TÜV Rheinland certification against the IEC 62443-4-2 standard at Security Level 3, confirming it protects against sophisticated attackers with moderate resources and skills. CIP Security provides authentication, authorization, data integrity, and encryption for EtherNet/IP industrial automation devices. The certification simplifies compliance for manufacturers and positions CIP Security as a tool for meeting European Union Cyber Resilience Act requirements for operational technology products.

Why it matters: Industrial automation product manufacturers using EtherNet/IP can now more easily achieve IEC 62443-4-2 compliance for their devices, and organizations deploying these certified products gain assurance of security controls meeting intentional attack scenarios at Security Level 3.
