Hong Kong privacy watchdog investigates data leaks linked to major airlines and retailers

Hong Kong's privacy regulator has received multiple breach notifications from airlines and electronics retailers operating in the territory. As of October 30, the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data logged 51 complaints and 48 inquiries tied to data leaks at Hong Kong Airlines, Cathay Pacific, Malaysia Airlines, Yoho Hong Kong, and Broadway.

Why it matters: Airlines and retail customers in Hong Kong face identity theft and fraud exposure; compliance teams at these organizations must respond to regulatory investigation and prepare breach notifications.
