cPGuard Update Channel Hijacked to Backdoor Linux Servers and Collect Password Hashes
An attacker compromised the update distribution system for cPGuard, a Linux security tool, on November 2, 2026, and pushed a malicious script to customers' servers. The script installed a backdoor, harvested password hashes and other sensitive files, and the attacker subsequently exfiltrated portions of the collected data. OPSSHIELD, the vendor, disclosed the incident in an advisory.
Why it matters: Organizations running cPGuard 5.88.25 and later versions on Linux infrastructure face immediate risk of unauthorized backdoor access and credential compromise; affected administrators should verify server integrity and rotate exposed credentials.
