Companies spending more on cybersecurity but still struggling with AI oversight

Organizations are increasing cybersecurity spending, yet shadow artificial intelligence (AI) deployment continues to present challenges, according to a recent report. The disconnect suggests that budget growth alone does not automatically translate into effective governance over AI systems introduced outside formal procurement channels.

Why it matters: Security teams need to assess whether current budget allocation addresses shadow AI risks: unmanaged AI tools bypass security controls and create data exposure and compliance gaps that require dedicated oversight capabilities, not just general spending increases.
