Lab 1 warns breach data now exposes thousands more firms
Lab 1 analyzed 328 million files from 2,089 datasets leaked after cyber attacks and found that the median breach exposes data linked to 542 organizations beyond the initially named victim. Between 2025 and 2026, 13,436 unique organizations were exposed through recorded incidents, demonstrating the cascading effect of data breaches across supply chains and business ecosystems.
Why it matters: Security practitioners need to understand that breach exposure extends far beyond the headline victim: your organization may be exposed through third-party and fourth-party compromises even when not directly targeted.
