Vulnerabilities in Car Anti-Theft Device
Researchers at UC San Diego identified critical vulnerabilities in the KARR Security System, an aftermarket car alarm installed in over 2 million US vehicles, that permit attackers within Bluetooth range to unlock vehicles, disable alarms, control lights and horn, or disable ignition. The flaws expose a substantial vehicle population to unauthorized remote access and control by any nearby attacker with basic technical capability.
Why it matters: Fleet operators, vehicle owners, and aftermarket security installers need immediate awareness that KARR-equipped vehicles are vulnerable to relay and remote attacks, requiring urgent patching or system replacement to prevent theft and tampering.
