Chinese-Made Zbtlink Routers Ship With Backdoor That Opens Unauthenticated Root Shells
Cybersecurity researchers discovered a factory-shipped backdoor affecting at least 20 Zbtlink router models from China, present across 21 firmware images spanning over two years. The backdoor activates automatically and attempts to connect to command and control infrastructure. VulnCheck disclosed the findings, detailing how unauthenticated attackers can gain root shell access to affected devices.
Why it matters: Network administrators running Zbtlink routers face direct risk of unauthorized remote access and network compromise through a pre-installed backdoor that persists across firmware versions; immediate assessment and replacement of affected equipment is necessary.
