CISA’s logging guidance works beyond government

The US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) released a Logging Reference Architecture (LRA) in August 2026 to help federal agencies implement logging strategies that enable detection and reconstruction of attacks. The guidance addresses requirements in OMB Memorandum M-26-14 and is intended for federal civilian agencies, critical infrastructure operators, and other government organizations.

Why it matters: Federal agencies and critical infrastructure operators need to assess whether their current logging practices support incident detection and forensic analysis, and may use CISA's LRA as a framework to improve their logging posture.
