How a team of entity maintainers monitors, connects and scores entities in Elastic Security

Elastic Security's Entity Analytics system uses background tasks called maintainers to build and continuously enrich entity records for users, hosts, and services by establishing relationships, resolving fragmented identities, and calculating risk scores. The system derives deterministic entity identifiers from authoritative data sources such as identity providers and asset inventories, then layers additional context through specialized maintainers that run on independent schedules. All entity decisions, relationships, and risk calculations are inspectable and correctable through Elasticsearch APIs and the UI, enabling analysts to investigate the provenance of any entity record.

Why it matters: Security analysts and incident responders benefit from unified, evolving entity records that eliminate manual identity correlation and provide holistic risk context across all linked accounts and observed relationships.
