Interpol targets Black Axe’s illicit financial web in latest international sting

Interpol coordinated a multinational law enforcement operation called Operation Jackal IV that resulted in 58 arrests and identified 263 suspects targeting organized crime groups in West Africa, particularly Black Axe. The sting disrupted money laundering schemes, romance and investment scams, sextortion networks, and Crime-as-a-Service operations across multiple countries, with authorities seizing millions in assets and blocking hundreds of bank accounts. Preliminary results include a 143 million euro investment scam bust in Romania, $2.67 million seized in South Africa, and the identification of a pan-European money laundering network.

Why it matters: Organizations worldwide should strengthen defenses against business email compromise and investment fraud schemes run by Black Axe and affiliated groups, as these operations generate billions annually and continue targeting employees and customers across dozens of countries.
