Think twice before installing this device promising free movies

Residential proxy networks, which route internet traffic through home connections in exchange for free streaming services, have become a popular vector for attackers to mask malicious activity. Security researchers documented malware targeting SuperBox and similar media player devices that can be remotely installed even when protected by a router, exploiting users who traded bandwidth access for pirated content. Dozens of comparable streaming devices face the same vulnerabilities.

Why it matters: Home users running these media players unknowingly facilitate criminal and nation-state attacks while exposing their devices to remote compromise; security teams should inventory such devices on their networks and block or isolate them.
