FBI probes suspected breach at IDScan.net after dark web service Nexus offered 153M+ US and Canadian driver’s license scans
A dark web service called Nexus emerged on September 1, 2026, claiming to offer searchable access to over 153 million scanned driver's licenses from the United States and Canada, allegedly sourced from a breach at IDScan.net. The FBI's New Orleans field office initiated a formal investigation on the same day. The discovery was reported by security researcher Brian Krebs.
Why it matters: U.S. and Canadian residents whose driver's license information may be in the compromised dataset face identity theft risk; organizations handling identity verification services should assess exposure and notify affected users.
