Frontier artificial intelligence (AI) labs should adopt one-way network architectures, such as data diodes and formal verification, to prevent trained models from escaping isolated environments and conducting cyberattacks on other organizations. The approach uses optical fiber hardware deployed in classified defense settings to allow telemetry and artifacts to flow only outbound from training clusters, with no return path to the model. While commercially available and used in high assurance domains, frontier AI companies have not yet implemented these safeguards, citing competitive pressure and implementation timelines rather than cost.
