Firefox helps iPhone users bypass ads on web sites while making money showing its own ads
Mozilla has rolled out native ad blocking to iOS Firefox, moving the feature from experimental status to general availability on Tuesday. The implementation uses Apple's WebKit Content Blockers because iOS requires all browsers to use WebKit for rendering, rather than supporting traditional browser extensions. Ad blocking is disabled by default, must be enabled in settings, and excludes ads on search results and sponsored content on Mozilla's own pages.
Why it matters: iOS Firefox users gain control over third-party ads and trackers, but Mozilla retains revenue from its own ad placements, so organizations relying on ad-supported content distribution should assess the impact on their campaigns.
