LG accused of 'egregious invasion of privacy' over TV data collection
Researchers at Gamers Nexus claim LG smart TVs capture and transcribe audio even during standby mode, collect plaintext IP addresses and Wi-Fi network data, enumerate local devices, and send the information to LG's advertising division. LG states its TVs do not record ambient conversations and that voice recognition is optional, though the company acknowledges deploying automatic content recognition (ACR) technology across 27 countries for its advertising business.
