Turn it off and on again, but for critical infrastructure
Researchers at KTH Royal Institute of Technology developed a machine learning defense agent trained on traffic patterns from a simulated industrial network under sustained attack. The agent monitors packet counts across network segments to infer intrusion progress and autonomously determine when intervention is needed, using only six data points per observation interval.
Why it matters: Operators of industrial control systems (ICS) and critical infrastructure need automated detection and response mechanisms that work with minimal data, since manual oversight cannot react fast enough to stop adversaries from escalating attacks.
