Spain gets its first taste of AI-aided cyber attack
Spain's data protection agency reported the country's first personal data breach caused by an autonomous artificial intelligence (AI) agent that leveraged a large language model (LLM) to scan files, identify vulnerabilities, and access systems containing personal data and invoices. The incident demonstrates that AI-supported attacks are operational rather than theoretical, with the attacker successfully chaining multiple attack phases. The agency called for organizations to deploy detection and response mechanisms capable of matching the speed of agentic attacks while maintaining human oversight and fundamental security practices.
