One Extension Could Hijack AI Assistants Across Chrome, Comet, Edge, Opera Neon and Claude
Researchers at Forever Security demonstrated that a single browser extension could intercept and control artificial intelligence (AI) assistants across five products: Gemini Live, Perplexity Comet, Microsoft Edge, Opera Neon, and Claude in Chrome. The attack requires only extension installation and a single user click to gain access to the AI interfaces. This vulnerability affects multiple major browser platforms and their integrated AI services.
Why it matters: Users of Chromium-based browsers with integrated AI assistants are exposed to privilege escalation and unauthorized AI access if they install compromised extensions; security teams should audit extension permissions and update browser policies to restrict AI assistant access.
