Dems seek top-to-bottom assessment of CISA workforce

House Democrats introduced legislation requiring the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) to conduct a workforce assessment following the departure of approximately 1,000 employees and budget cuts. The proposed CISA Force Structure Assessment Act would evaluate whether the agency retains necessary personnel, training, and certifications to perform core functions across threat-hunting, incident response, critical infrastructure support, and emerging technology risks. The bill would also examine CISA's capacity to support state and local governments and federal information technology systems.

Why it matters: Federal defenders and critical infrastructure operators need to understand whether CISA workforce losses have degraded its operational capability to detect, respond to, and prevent cyber attacks against essential systems.
