AWS launches open-source AI agent sandbox to prevent YOLO mode disasters

AWS launched Strands Box, an open-source sandbox for autonomous artificial intelligence (AI) agents that enforces contextual policies beyond traditional container isolation. The tool combines OS-level isolation with the Dogwood Local Engine and Shell and Python interpreters to track agent actions, enforce rules based on activity history, and prevent uncontrolled behavior such as database deletion or excessive application programming interface (API) calls. The solution is available on GitHub for macOS now, with Linux support in development.

Why it matters: Organizations deploying autonomous AI agents need this to prevent unreviewed agent actions from causing infrastructure damage, service disruptions, or unexpected costs; developers should evaluate Strands Box as part of their agentic AI safety strategy today.
