Medical devices patients rely on most are least prepared for quantum attacks

Forescout's analysis of over 2.5 million devices across more than 50 healthcare delivery organizations found that medical devices most relied upon by patients lack sufficient preparation for quantum computing threats. Between January and August 2026, researchers tracked 461 ransomware claims and 300 hacktivist attacks against healthcare organizations, with threat actors exploiting information technology (IT), Internet of Medical Things (IoMT), operational technology (OT), and Internet of Things (IoT) devices to deploy ransomware and steal patient data.

Why it matters: Healthcare practitioners and security teams must assess their organization's readiness for post-quantum cryptography migration, as adversaries actively target unprotected medical devices to disrupt patient care and exfiltrate sensitive health information.
