Autonomous Remediation Is Already Running at Enterprise Scale

Qualys President and CEO Sumedh Thakar discussed how security remediation speed has compressed from a 90-day cycle to a 90-second expectation, driven by regulatory mandates like CISA's three-day requirement and 24-hour zero-day response windows. His proposed answer relies on three pillars: artificial intelligence (AI)-speed detection to close the vendor-disclosure-to-confirmation gap, hyper-prioritization using exploit testing against actual security controls to reduce false positives, and autonomous remediation that applies fixes without human intervention. Qualys has deployed over half a billion patches, with 40 million patches applied autonomously in the past 12 months, and reports achieving a four-hour maximum exposure window for patched vulnerabilities at enterprise scale.

Why it matters: Security teams and CISOs must shift from dashboard-based vulnerability management to AI-driven autonomous remediation or face regulatory noncompliance and risk boards cannot accept; defenders can no longer meet three-day remediation deadlines or compete with autonomous exploitation through manual processes alone.
