Rockwell warns life sciences manufacturers of cyber and data readiness gaps amid digital transformation

Rockwell Automation's survey of 104 life sciences manufacturing leaders found that while 90% view digital transformation as necessary and 58% have deployed smart manufacturing technologies, significant gaps persist in cybersecurity and data utilization. Fifty-four percent of respondents experienced at least one cyberattack in the past year, with exposure concentrated in IT systems and enterprise networks, remote access, and IT/operational technology (OT) integration points; only 32% effectively use more than half their collected data. Rockwell recommends seven foundational practices including digital evidence management for regulatory assessments, cyber resilience for connected operations, standardized industrial data models, validated artificial intelligence (AI) use cases, quality-by-design integration, continuous software assurance, and lifecycle knowledge management.

Why it matters: Life sciences manufacturers face mounting cyber and operational readiness pressure as they scale digital transformation; security and compliance teams must prioritize integrating cybersecurity into technology decisions, strengthening IT/OT boundaries, and establishing trusted data governance to reduce attack surface and regulatory risk.
